Celebrating Tourism & Hospitality in Gilmer County

On May 5, The Gilmer County Chamber, Pick Ellijay & Community leaders gathered for the second-annual Trailblazers Summit. We discussed initiatives we’re working on, learned about the shifting media landscape and how to make your business stand out, enjoyed some great food from our friends at The Pink Pig and celebrated some people making a major impact on our community during the Gilmer Tourism Awards!

Our event kicked off with an address from keynote speaker, Brianna Francis, VP of Communication & Strategy at Madden Media. Brianna highlighted that Ellijay can stand out in a strong but shifting travel market by using authentic, community-first storytelling, earned media relationships, shoulder-season promotion, and partner-driven campaigns to build awareness, inspire longer stays, and sustain momentum.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn about strategic moves Pick Ellijay is making & upcoming campaigns involving Explore Georgia and Destinations International! Tourism in Ellijay has never been just about bringing people here. It is also about celebrating the community we are building together and making sure more people see themselves reflected in that story. One important part of that work is Escoge Ellijay. Those in attendance were able to hear first-hand how the Pick Ellijay Team has pioneered a dedicated way to connect with Spanish-speaking travelers as well as residents, business owners, and families. All of this work is connected by one goal: to share Ellijay in a way that brings value back to the people, businesses, landscapes, and traditions that make this place what it is.

The most important item on the agenda, we celebrated stellar community members! The 2026 Gilmer Tourism Awards were the highlight of the event! Each of these awards recognize a different kind of impact, and each recipient reflects the heart of Gilmer County tourism. These awards recognized individuals and organizations who are helping make Gilmer County a destination of choice for visitors throughout the year. Honorees were recognized in categories including Frontline Service, Unsung Hero, Creative Expression, Rising Star, and Spirit of the Community.

We’re proud to celebrate the momentum and collaboration driving Gilmer County’s tourism industry forward and look forward to continuing to welcome visitors to experience the unique character, hospitality, and outdoor adventure our community has to offer.
