On May 5th, Tourism & Hospitality professionals from across Gilmer County came together for the second-annual Trailblazers Summit, hosted by Pick Ellijay. We celebrate the people, businesses, and stories that make Gilmer County such a memorable destination. Tourism is built through experiences — but those experiences are created by people. Outstanding members of the community were recognized for their dedication and contributions to tourism in Gilmer County with the Gilmer Tourism Awards.

The Unsung Hero Award recognizes the people who help everything run smoothly — the steady hands, the problem-solvers, the team supporters, and the people who serve with humility and heart. This award honors someone whose work may not always happen in the spotlight, but whose impact is felt by coworkers, guests, and the business every single day. The person receiving this year’s Unsung Hero Award is someone who steps in wherever she is needed. She greets visitors personally whenever she can, answers questions, and works tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure the operation runs smoothly. It is our honor to announce Rachel Reece, B.J. Reece Orchards, as this year’s recipient of the Unsung Hero Award!

Rachel has spent more than 20 years in hospitality, but what stands out most is not just her experience. It is her attitude. Visitors notice her gracious smile. Employees notice her work ethic. Tourists are drawn to the way she makes people feel welcome. One former seasonal employee said they were blown away by her constant goal of customer satisfaction. In a place that welcomed over 150 thousand visitors last year, that kind of steady presence matters. She is an ambassador not only for her business, but for Gilmer County itself. Rachel reminds us that hospitality is often found in the small moments: a greeting, an answer, a helping hand, a willingness to do whatever needs to be done.
