2024 Citizen of the Year: Edgar Land

Congratulations to the 2024 Citizen of the Year: Edgar Land!
Known by many for the CPA practice (Land and Associates) that he operated in Gilmer County for over 40 years, Edgar’s life has been marked by the highest level of service to and love of his community.
Edgar is an active member of New Hope Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. His mentoring and Bible Studies are a testament to his service. Edgar is also a talented pianist who lends his musical talents to his church by playing the piano.
In addition to his service to his church, Edgar selflessly offers his time to the residents of The Oaks Assisted Living Facility by facilitating a Bible study for them.
Over the years, Edgar has mentored countless young people throughout the community and helped guide them towards happy, meaningful, and successful lives.
Edgar has held leadership roles within numerous community groups including the Ellijay Lions Club and the Rotary Club of Gilmer County. Edgar is the past president of the Coosawattee Shrine Club and the Past Worshipful Master of the Oak Bowery Lodge. Edgar is also the Past Grand Master of the Masons in Georgia.
His membership and willingness to volunteer for numerous fundraisers have benefited the Lions Club, Rotary, Mason Lodge, and Shrine Clubs and have not gone unrecognized. In 2013, He was elected to serve a term as the Grand Master of all Masons in Georgia, the highest office in masonry. He was awarded the Scottish Rite Mason’s 33rd degree, which few have acquired.
Edgar also Oversaw numerous programs, including the Georgia Child Identification Program (GACHIP), a comprehensive Child Recovery, Identification, and Abduction Awareness program offered to parents.
His dedication and love for his Wife Barbara, his family, and the Church reflect true Christian values. Congratulations, Edgar, for this well-deserved recognition and thank you for your life of service to our community!
