Plus, with a wide variety of apples, jams and jellies, and so much more, Penland Orchards is a must-visit for anyone wanting a taste of North Georgia’s apple country.
The Penland Orchards Story
It all began in the mid-1800s, when Samuel Huey Penland arrived by covered wagon from North Carolina, bringing apple trees with him to plant in the North Georgia soil. Decades later, his grandson, Thomas Lewis Penland, returned from serving in World War II to help grow the farm into what it is today, and expanded the farm from a few trees to over 100 acres of apples.
Now run by Thomas’s sons, John and Lee Penland, Penland Orchards continues to welcome visitors each fall with the same warmth and dedication that has guided their family for generations. Stop by their farm market to find freshly-picked apples, handmade jams and jellies, old-fashioned apple butter, and unique gifts.

What You’ll Find At The Farm Market
Penland Orchards’ farm market showcases the best of the season, with fresh apple cider at the heart of it all. Made from carefully selected, tree-ripened apples, their cider is blended for peak flavor and offered in slushies or served hot during fall weekends. Other local favorites include fried apple and peach pies, apple bread, and seasonal whole pies like sweet potato and pumpkin.
Alongside their cider and baked goods, you’ll spot shelves stocked with jams, jellies, apple butter, honey, and gifts. From mid-summer through fall, they offer a variety of apples, including Gala, Blondee, Fuji, and Granny Smith, and fresh peaches and nectarines. It’s the kind of place where you leave with something delicious in hand and something sweet to take home. Don’t forget to check out their new wings mural, #appletreeangelwings, a perfect spot for photos!
