Gilmer County is the apple capital of Georgia. A variety of apples are grown here, from familiar standards like red and golden delicious to lesser known types not typically seen in supermarkets. The Georgia Apple Festival gives visitors an opportunity to try some different apple varieties, and perhaps discover a new favorite. Four of Gilmer County's local apple houses set up at the festival, offering apples and apple products including fried pies, fritters, cider and more.
The Georgia Apple Festival hosts over 300 vendors offering handcrafted items including jewelry, accessories, pottery, woodworking, baskets, toys, soaps and candles, yard art, photography, packaged food products, and much more. It's the perfect place to find unique handmade gifts for friends or loved ones.
Fried apple pies, fried oreos, gyros, homemade root beer, fresh made pizza, barbecue, boiled peanuts is just the beginning of the delicious foods that you will find at the Georgia Apple Festival. This is event is considered one of the top food festivals in the State of Georgia. There are more than 35 food concession vendors serving up savory food for you to enjoy.
Other Georgia Apple Festival activities include a parade, classic car show, 5k road race, and the Ellijay Apple Queen Pageant. You can also visit Apple Arts, a smaller arts and crafts festival in Downtown Ellijay. Don't forget to save time for a stop at one of the eleven apple houses and orchards in the area. You can even pick your own apples at B.J. Reece Orchards, Hillcrest Orchards, and Red Apple Barn in the month of October.
The 2018 Georgia Apple Festival will take place October 13-14 and October 20-21. Admission is $5 for adults; children under 10 are admitted free. A convenient free shuttle will transport visitors from the parking lots to the festival venue. Pets are not allowed inside the fairgrounds, limited kennels are available on site.
