The Hill family of the Mountaintown settlement was one of most interesting families of old Gilmer County, Georgia. Gilmer County historians published many stories about the life of William Franklin Hill, a man who survived savage battles during the Civil War and who went on to become the county’s third public school commissioner. (His brother-in-law N. L. Osborn was the first commissioner.)
Author Dennis Craig Stewart, W. F. Hill’s great great grandson, will give a poignant presentation about the Hills of Mountaintown for the GCGSI February meeting at the Gilmer County Library at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2023. The public is invited and admission is free.
