Tax Information

Property Tax

Property tax is assessed at 40% of fair market value.

The County Board of Tax Assessors is responsible for determining taxability, value and equalization of all assessments within the county. The county board of tax assessors notifies taxpayers when changes are made to the value of the property; receive and review all appeals filed; and insures that the appeal process proceeds properly. In addition, they approve all exemptions claimed by the taxpayer.

The tax assessor’s office maintains a wealth of information on their website at www.gilmerassessors.com.

Available Exemptions

There are a variety of exemptions available for property tax. The most common is the standard homestead exemption. Unique to Gilmer County, that many counties do not offer, is an exemption from school taxes for any individual 65 and older. For more information visit, www.qpublic.net/ga/gilmer/exemptions.html
