Started in 2002, the goal of Leadership Gilmer is to develop informed leaders and channel their ideas and experiences toward community resources, issues and concerns to help direct the future of Gilmer County.  This goal is achieved by programs, informal discussions and participatory experiences. Since beginning the program in August 2015, the class members have met once per month and covered topics such as local and state government, the judicial system, local economics, quality of life, the education system, medical services, state government, volunteerism and leadership skills. Each program session concentrated on a specific area of the community using speakers, field trips, and participatory experiences. “We are pleased to welcome our new graduates to an esteemed group of over 100 fellow Leadership Gilmer alumni. We have seen that this program makes a difference in our community through the organizations and activities that our alumni continue to be involved with,” stated Alan Davenport, Gilmer Chamber Chairman of the Board.   “Leadership Gilmer is one of my favorite programs of our organization.  The friendships and networks that are built make our community better.  It has been a pleasure working with this year’s class throughout their journey,” added Paige Green, Gilmer Chamber President & CEO.   This year’s graduates are as follows:  Penney Andruski, Coosawattee River Resort; Michelle Bentley, Chik-fil-A; Lou Crawford, Gilmer Nursing Home; Natasha Elliott,  Candra Warren State Farm; Sherri Gifford; Ed  Grant, Marketplace Promotions/Log Home Outfitters; Rebecca Holmes, Cartecay United Methodist Church; Jennifer Houle, Cohutta Healing Arts Institute; Rebecca Kendrick, Mahan & Associates Attorneys at Law; Mona Lowe; Tracey May, Dalton State College; Brett Minter, North Georgia Physical Therapy; Ashley Phillips, Community and Southern Bank; Lisa Pritchard,; Brad Simmons, River Street Tavern; Barbara Simmons, Misty Hollow Antiques; Jim Stover; Martin Titus, Edward Jones; Chris Wang, Chris Wang State Farm.   Participation is open to anyone who has an interest in the community and a sincere commitment to making Gilmer County a better place to work and live.  Class size is limited to 20 each year.
