Print FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Greater Gilmer JDA announces its intention to hire a permanent Executive Director to succeed Chuck Scragg in his role as “Startup” Director. On September 8, 2015, The Board of Directors of the Joint Development Authority of Gilmer County and the Cities of Ellijay and East Ellijay (henceforth to be known as the Greater Gilmer JDA) unanimously voted to contract with Chuck Scragg to serve as “Startup” Director for the Greater Gilmer JDA. According to JDA Chairman, Travis Crouch, the newly formed Authority Board quickly realized the enormity of the work that would be required to establish an effective authority. The Board decided the services of a seasoned professional were needed. Instead of finding our own way through the startup process, the Board decided to seek the services of one who had “been there and done that.” That is exactly what we got when we brought Chuck Scragg on board as “Startup Director.” From day one, Chuck brought his decades of experience and his extensive network to bear. Working with Chuck, the Greater Gilmer JDA was able to complete more foundational work in six months than we would have been able to accomplish in as many years without his expertise and guidance. Six months into our contract with Chuck, both the Board and Chuck himself agree that the foundation is laid and the initial trajectory of the Greater Gilmer JDA is in place. Both parties agree that the time has come to transition away from our “Startup Director” to a full time, permanent Executive Director. The six months under Chuck’s leadership has not only allowed the JDA to establish itself and learn the ropes, but it also allowed additional time to perform a careful search for a permanent Economic Development Director to follow in Chuck’s footsteps. The Greater Gilmer JDA is currently negotiating with candidates and hopes to announce the new Executive Director in the near future. ###
