Gilmer Chamber Staff Attends Tourism, Hospitality & Arts Day at the Capitol
On January 24, 2017, your Gilmer Chamber President & CEO, Paige Green and Communications Manager, Karla Haege represented Gilmer County at the annual Tourism, Hospitality & Arts Day at the Capitol. On this day, Governor Nathan Deal is joined by leaders from Georgia’s tourism industry to recognize the $59 billion impact of tourism on Georgia’s economy. Representatives from the tourism industry presented Deal with a check representing the $3 billion in state and local tax revenue generated by tourism-related expenditures. “With a total economic impact of $59 billion, the tourism industry is an integral part of Georgia’s dynamic business sector and continues to be a major economic driver,” said Deal. This is true not just for our state, but this industry is also an integral part of Gilmer County’s business sector. Deal also unveiled the cover of the official 2017 state travel guide, which celebrates the Year of Georgia Film and the local communities that have served as backdrops for movies and television programs for more than 40 years. The full-color, magazine-sized guide highlights the state’s rich film and television heritage, world-class venues and unique festivals. This guide also provides visitors with information on Georgia’s tourism assets including trip ideas, attractions and accommodations. More than 700,000 guides are distributed annually throughout the state’s 12 visitor information centers, regional visitor information centers, travel and trade shows, ExploreGeorgia.org and 1-800-VISIT GA. To pick up a copy of this travel guide, you may stop by our welcome center located at 696 First Ave, East Ellijay. While the chamber staff visited the Capitol, they met with Senator Steve Gooch and Speaker of the House David Ralston and thanked them for their support of our local tourism industry. Gilmer County is fortunate to have leadership that recognizes the economic impact that tourism has on our community and continues to support our efforts.
