Gilmer Chamber Celebrates 2018 Random Acts of Kindness Week
Random Acts of Kindness Week was officially celebrated February 12-17, 2018. During that week the Gilmer Chamber wanted to say thank you to some very hard working, often unseen folks. The Ellijay city workers can often be seen around town in their bright yellow shirts doing whatever needs to be done to keep the city beautiful and safe. It was our pleasure to treat them to a special lunch at one of their favorite local restaurants, Mike’s Ellijay Restaurant. We also treated Kenny Barneycastle , East Ellijay city crew to lunch at Shane’s Rib Shack. Because of the recent flu outbreak around the county we put out a call to our members and local citizens to do a “Be Well” drive for our local schools which extended through Friday, February 23. The response was overwhelming, and we were able to deliver hand sanitizer, disinfectant spray, Kleenex and other supplies to all of the area schools. A great big thank you to Chamber Ambassadors Sally Daniels, Vito Molfetto, Mary Ann Elkins, and Lisa Lacey for helping deliver on a rainy day. And to everyone that donated supplies, you are a true representation of what makes our community so special. Thank you isn’t adequate. Finally, during Random Acts of Kindness Week the Chamber staff had a special T-shirt Takeover with our “Choose to be Nice” shirts. It’s a really simple, yet profound goal. It was fun to wear our colorful t-shirts that reminded each of us that kindness goes a long way.
