On May 6th, a local tourism promotion committee of the Gilmer Chamber made up of representatives from Ellijay, East Ellijay, the Gilmer Chamber, and Gilmer County awarded $41,764 in grants to support local tourism events and programs.

Seven local nonprofit organizations were awarded grants to produce community events in 2021:

  • Georgia Mountain Partnership for the Outdoor Adventure Event at Talona Ridge
  • Downtown Ellijay Business and Community Association for 2nd Saturdays
  • Gilmer Arts for Plein Air and The Playhouse
  • Blue Ridge Mountain Parade of Homes 2021
  • Georgia Apple Festival
  • Friends of Harrison Park
  • Dancing Goats FolkFest

Chamber President Jennifer Grimmer said, “The Tourism Promotion Committee is excited to be able to support these community events that attract not only local residents but also draw visitors and tourists from outside of our town and the region.”

The Tourism Grant Program is funded by City hotel/motel tax revenues to support events and programs that promote tourism and community activities that draw both overnight and daytime visitors, which helps to support local businesses.

Deadlines are always the first week in May.  However, the remaining funds will be distributed on a case-by-case basis throughout 2021 as a first-year grace period.
