CORE- Official Opening

On Wednesday, July 24, 2019, a large gathering of regional partners and state leadership joined to officially open Collaboration on River’s Edge (CORE) and for two exciting announcements from Speaker of the House David Ralston. CORE, located at 142 River Terrace, Ellijay, Georgia, is a cutting edge, innovation space for business development. Part incubator, part co-workspace and part business resource center, CORE is expected to have regional impact on workforce and economic development.

During his comments Speaker David Ralston said, “This is the kind of project that will spread prosperity throughout our entire region. It is the kind of skin-in-the-game project that deserves support from the state.” He then announced a One Georgia grant award of $420,000 for the facility. Additionally, he announced that the North Georgia office of the Center for Rural Prosperity & Innovation will be housed within the facility. Powered by Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, the north Georgia office will be staffed by long time economic and tourism development professional Janet Cochran.

Following comments by Kent Sanford, Chairman of the Greater Gilmer Community Foundation; Lex Rainey, Chairman of the Greater Gilmer Joint Development Authority; Speaker David Ralston; John Marshall, Chairman of the Gilmer Chamber; and Paige Green, President & CEO of the Gilmer Chamber, the ribbon was officially cut on behalf of the Gilmer, Fannin and Pickens Chambers. The joint ribbon cutting was attended by representatives of all of the abovementioned organizations, local governmental officials, and Appropriations Chairman Terry England, House of Represenatatives; Education Chairman Rick Jasperse, House of Representatives; and Senator Steve Gooch.
