Solar Eclipse in Ellijay – Why 99% is still awesome!

Ellijay, Georgia is only going to view a 99% Full Solar Eclipse, but that is still AWESOME! There are some perks… less crowds, available lodging, viewing parties at the vineyards, Carter’s Lake and other great places. If you haven’t made plans for August 21, check out what Ellijay is doing for the Solar Eclipse.

Solar Eclipse Viewing Party at Engelheim Vineyards
Due to popular demand and high local volume, Engelheim Vineyard’s Solar Eclipse Viewing Party is now a ticketed event. Ellijay, Georgia is expected to see a 99% total solar eclipse! Admission will include one glass of wine (of your choice!), hors d’oeuvres, and live music by Doug Easterly (dougeasterly.com). The partial eclipse is expected to begin at 1:04 pm and maximize around 2:35. Lawn chairs and picnics are welcomed! There are two ticket options: $17 with certified viewing glasses (70 available) or $15 without glasses. Tickets can be purchased via eventbrite ( https://www.eventbrite.com/e/solar-eclipse-viewing-party-ti…), by phone or at the door. All additional purchases will be 10% off. Doors will open at 12 pm. This an event you wont want to miss!

Solar Eclipse Bike Ride with Cartecay Bike Shop
“On Monday the 21 we will be closing the shop at noon so we can ride up the mountain and watch the partial solar eclipse. The excitement should start roughly by 2:30 pm so we will start riding up by 1pm so we can be ready. Please bring viewing glasses if you can and extras are always welcome. Hope to see you there!”

“Join us to view and learn about a Solar Eclipse. Ellijay will be experiencing a 99% total eclipse beginning around 1:00pm and peaking around 2:35pm. While waiting for the eclipse, we’re going to be doing hands-on demonstrations and a craft. Everyone attending receives a free pair of eclipse glasses to safely view the eclipse.”

Solar Eclipse at Fainting Goat Vineyards
“Schools are closed and Fainting Goat has the answer for family fun! Bring a picnic and grab a seat to watch the eclipse from the best view in Georgia. Real fainting goats and dogs on the property provide great entertainment for the kids and the bar pours the best wine in the state. No reservations required, No cover charge. Just great fun with the best views.

Solar Eclipse Viewing at Cartecay Vineyards
Due to the overwhelming response, Cartecay Vineyards has slightly changed how they will conduct the event.
They will now give the First 60 wine purchasing customers a pair of solar glasses.
They have an additional 75 pair which they will sell on a first come, first serve basis for $8.50 each.
The rest of the event remains the same; Fun, with Outdoor seating at the most pristine site for viewing the Solar Eclipse in all of North GA.
They will have live music during the Eclipse from 1:00 to 5:00, with Timothy O’Donovan.
They will have cheese and Cracker trays for sale, but please feel Free to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the event from our outdoor area and picnic tables.
Due to the overwhelming response, we suggest you bring a lawn chair or a blanket for use with our outdoor area.

Total Solar Eclipse Viewing at Carters Lake hosted by the Carters Lake US Army Corps of Engineers
“Come watch the Solar Eclipse at Carters Lake. Rangers will be giving a program and passing out Eclipse safety glasses at Northbank Park.”

Seth’s on Boardwalk will have $1.50 PBR’s and other specials all day long. You can view the eclipse from the Boardwalk in Downtown Ellijay.

Cohutta Overlook
Ronnie Thompson Ford parking lot will be open to the public.
Red Apple Barn will have their field and parking open to the public.

Morning Breeze Cabin Rentals will place glasses in your cabin with advance reservations. They also have a viewing area by their office available, but parking will be limited.

Wilderness View Cabins is waiving their two night minimum for that Monday.

The Gilmer Chamber  is no longer selling Solar Eclipse Glasses, due to any potential liability. If you have purchased glasses from the Gilmer Chamber you may bring the glasses to us for a refund. No refunds will be given without the glasses being returned.  

There will be no school for Gilmer County schools that day, so no school traffic and kids can participate in this epic natural event.

Whether you live locally or coming to visit for the event. Ellijay is 99% the place to be in North Georgia for the solar eclipse on August 21.
