A ribbon cutting for Piedmont Mountainside Emergency Services, in the former North Georgia Medical Center, was held on Friday, March 9, 2017. This emergency room facility brings back 24/7 care to Gilmer County. Piedmont has invested more than $2 million in completely renovating their portion of the facility — making it now a state-of-the-art ER with the latest technology and equipment. Piedmont will also have at least 2 acute care patient rooms available in the near future. This means that the license and Certificate of Need (CON) for the facility will remain active.
This was truly a community-wide effort on both the state and local level. Among those who pitched in were the City of Ellijay, Gilmer County Board of Commissioners, Gilmer Joint Development Authority, Gilmer Chamber. Speaker of the House, David Ralston, Senator Steve Gooch and the team from Piedmont Healthcare.
