On May 4, 2018, the US Army Corps of Engineers at Carters Lake hosted a ribbon cutting for the new trails at the Ridgeway Recreation Area. These trails would not be possible without the collaboration between the US Army Corps of Engineers, Gilmer County Board of Commissioners, Georgia Transmission, Amicalola EMC, and North Georgia Mountain Bike Association.
The two new trails have are now open to the public at the Ridgeway Recreation Area on Carters Lake with two more trails in the works for the future. One is a re-vamp of the old downhill or gravity trail by Flow Motion Trailbuilders and All Out Trail Designs. The jump features were updated, added a few more, new rock work and all with go arounds for the faint of heart. This trail retains its flavor and status as a black diamond expert trail.
The new 2 mile beginner loop flow trail by Flow Motion incorporates parts of the old cross country trail. It starts with a mile of flow features that takes you down to the lake designed for the beginner, but satisfies experts with side jumps and a wall ride. Once at the lake the trail morphs into the old cross country trail that gradually brings you back to the top. This trail can be ridden in either direction.
