Festival of Trees - The Festival of Trees is held during the month of December. This popular community event is organized and hosted by the Gilmer County Library. Local businesses and civic organizations provide and decorate theme trees for viewing by the public. Entry forms are distributed in August.  An Opening Celebration Night is held during the first week of December.

Special Collections Room - The library's Special Collection contains many family histories, county histories, and miscellaneous genealogical resources for Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.  Census records for Gilmer County (and some other counties) are available on microfilm and many are indexed in print form.  A vertical file contains information submitted by genealogists.  A researcher file registers genealogists by ancestor/family name.

History of the Library - The Gilmer County Library was founded on June 26, 1940, and opened July 1, 1940, in the county Court House as part of a federal project.  From 1943 to 1977, the library was housed on the old Ellijay High School/Elementary School campus.  In 1977, a permanent library building was completed at the present location.  An addition and renovation project was completed in 1991.  The library's circulation and catalog were automated at that time.  The Gilmer County Library has been part of the Sequoyah Regional Library System since 1959.

Friends of the Library - Friends of the Library is a nonprofit, volunteer organization formed to work with the Gilmer County Library in obtaining funding and promoting the library's services.  The Friends help fund special needs not otherwise covered in the library's budget.  A book sale is held each year.  Membership forms are available at the library or you may contact the Friends of the Gilmer County Library at P.O. Box 2521, Ellijay, GA 30540.
