East Ellijay, GA- Joe Sewell, a seven year veteran of the Gilmer Chamber staff, was recently certified as a Georgia Professional Travel Counselor. Recognized by the U.S. Travel Association and National Council of State Tourism Directors, state certification demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the state’s history, geography, culture, and traffic laws. It conveys that recipients are well versed on the excellent facilitates, scenic routes and attractions that make Georgia a great place to visit. One of only twelve states with a certification program, Georgia currently has only 38 individuals certified.
“As a certified professional travel counselor, you play a very important role in creating a positive image for your state. You may be the first and perhaps the only representative a visitor to your state will meet. Therefore, your enthusiasm, knowledge of the area and personal commitment to your job will reflect the way your visitors view your state,” stated Kevin Langston, Deputy Commissioner for Tourism with the Georgia Department of Economic Development in a letter to Mr. Sewell.
“Joe is an incredible asset to our community and the Chamber. We are always receiving great comments and reviews from guests on Joe’s helpfulness and thoroughness. Joe’s knowledge and enthusiasm for the state is surpassed only by his love and appreciation for our community that he shares with all of our visitors,” added Paige Green, President & CEO, of the Gilmer Chamber.
Mr. Sewell received his official certification in early March 2016, but received his official recognition on March 29, 2016, during the Regional Visitor Information Center Workshop at Lake Lanier Islands Resort.
