Farms & Markets
Increasing consumer interest in agritourism and locally harvested products have made Ellijay and Gilmer County a destination for those seeking healthy foods and sustainable growing practices. Our area has long been known as “Georgia’s Apple Capital,” but other farms and growers offer seasonal produce, pastured poultry, grass-fed beef, and free range pork. Locally harvested products include apples, potatoes, seasonal fruits and vegetables, free range eggs, and beef and pork raised without hormones, antibiotics, or steroids.
Some of these farms are open to the public. Other local products can be found right in downtown Ellijay at New Ground Market or at the weekly Farmers Market. Held each Saturday morning from late April until early October, our Farmers Market offers shoppers the opportunity to browse for organic produce, free range eggs, fresh meat, plants, baked goods, local honey, and handmade crafts.
Mountain Valley Farms
See the #1 Attraction in Ellijay according to Trip Advisor! This beautiful valley has been in the Wright’s family since 1840. In 2009, the Wrights decided to open Mountain Valley Farms, selling grass fed beef and grain feed pork direct to market. Open seven days a week, the Farm Store offers various cuts of meat, unpasteurized milk for pets, and most importantly an opportunity to know just where your food comes from. Great place for kids to see real farm animals in a natural setting.
Holden Creek Farms
Their small farm is nestled in mountains of northern Georgia in the Big Creek Community of Gilmer County. It is their desire to get “back to the basics”… farming, gardening, and producing as much as we can… on their farm… for their family and yours. It is their goal to learn and preserve the traditions, skills, and values associated with rural farm life and self-reliance that are slowly being lost and forgotten. Their Pastured Poultry is available for pick up at their farm store on days they are open and by appointment. They stay very busy around the farm and are not always on the premises so please make reservations or view their website for an updated schedule.

Gilmer County Farmer’s Market
Open every Saturday morning from Memorial Day to Labor Day, the farmer’s market is a great place to visit with old friends and make new ones while picking up the freshest vegetables from the garden, some wonderful baked goods, native plants, and local crafts. Located just off the roundabout in downtown Ellijay, the Farmer’s Market is conveniently located in the parking lot of the Gilmer County Courthouse.
Bear Creek Cattle Company
The Bear Creek Cattle Company farm is nestled in the Bear Creek valley, on the edge of the Chattahoochee National Forest outside of Ellijay, Georgia. The farm is family owned and has been in continuous operation since the Cherokee Indians walked the same creek banks that flow through the valley. In 2004, Will and Tiffany Beattie purchased what was once the original homestead of the farm and began a family. In 2011, the remainder of the farm acreage was purchased and the Beattie’s became the third family of record to assume farm operations. In 2012, the Bear Creek Cattle Company LLC was officially formed and opened for business. Click Here for locations to purchase Bear Creek Cattle Company meat.
