Whether you own an RV or enjoy primitive camping, we have a site for you.
The areas surrounding Ellijay and Gilmer County offer many picturesque camping spots for a weekend getaway or longer. Whether your ideal camping location is a pristine mountain lake or a secluded national forest setting, and whether you own an RV or prefer primitive tent camping, we have a site for you.
Outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy fishing, boating, and watersports will find two easily accessible US Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Carters Lake. A popular destination for anglers and boaters, Carters Lake is an undeveloped paradise with 62 miles of shoreline. The Carters Lake Marina has supplies and rental boats.
Two nearby state parks give campers the opportunity to explore scenic mountain areas. Fort Mountain State Park, located near the Cohutta Wilderness, offers hiking, fishing, mountain biking, and seasonal swimming. Amicalola Falls State Park contains the tallest cascading waterfall in the Southeast. An 8.5-mile trail leads from the park to the southern end of the Appalachian Trail, for those interested in hiking and backpacking.
Campgrounds in the Chattahoochee National Forest may be the ultimate nature lover’s getaway. Many of these scenic campgrounds have limited facilities. Privately owned campgrounds, like Plum Nelly RV Park and Campground, offer the convenience of pull-through sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups as well as laundry facilities, just three miles south of downtown Ellijay.
