Things to Do Outdoors
Explore the outdoors and recreational opportunities that the Ellijays and Gilmer County have to offer.

Its surroundings are home to eleven mountain hiking trails, fifty-nine mountain bike trails, several impressive waterfalls, and some of the best trout waters in the Southeast. Whether your version of adventure is a lazy day on the lake, a gentle walk along the river or something a bit more adventurous like mountain biking or hiking into the wilderness, you will find just the adventure to keep you coming back for more.
Whether you are a beginner hiker, hiking with a family, or an experience explorer, Gilmer County has trails to meet your needs.
More than 100 miles of single-track mountain biking trails have earned Gilmer County the official designation as “Georgia’s Mountain Biking Capital” and there is no off season for mountain biking here.
Gilmer County offers the opportunity to fish for fresh large trout in cool mountain rivers, or large Bass in challenging Carter’s Lake.
