Ellijay will be full of American pride and excitement for Independence Day! Here is a list of the events happening this weekend!
Saturday June 30
The 8th Regiment Band performs at the Gilmer Arts Playhouse
Days before the Fourth of July, George Link Jr. Gilmer Arts Playhouse will present The 8th Regiment Band of Rome, GA. for a Historical Patriotic Concert. This is not just a ‘Civil War Band’ or a ‘Confederate Band’. They realized early on that they could not portray the true history of those times nor achieve public trust in their historical accuracy if they did not speak for both sides. ‘The 8th’ regularly dons Union Blue and Confederate Grey. For thirty years this group has sought to present carefully selected music and stories from the 19th century. Not only do they preserve the music and stories from that era but they do so with over 30 original horns and bass drum from that era. They have evolved into a re-creation of a regimental brass band from that period and they are bringing this bit of historical, patriotic music to Ellijay to start our summer off with shades of Red, White, and Blue. For the convenience of our patrons we have added a ‘ticket with food’ option. We are setting a picnic (with AC) theme and the food will be prepared by Lucy’s Fried Chicken. The meal of two pieces of chicken, corn fritters and choice of macaroni salad or slaw will be available at 6:30 for those who want to eat prior to the show. Click Here to Purchase Tickets
