Thanks to the hard work of business owners and volunteers, Ellijay is a true mountain bike destination that you must visit. Ellijay continues to provide awesome trails and all the services a Mountain Biker might need, whether you are a beginner or advanced.
So what’s happening right now in Ellijay?
2017 is the 10 year anniversary for Mulberry Gap and the 20 year anniversary for Cartecay Bike Shop. Cartecay Bike Shop will have a small satellite office at Mulberry Gap’s newly expanded retail space. They will offer bike repairs, rentals, and basic essentials.
Mulberry Gap has been working hard to create an awesome new jump line to their new pump track.
Mulberry Gap also has some great events that you will want to make sure and put on your calendar for 2017. Mulberry Gap was recently featured in Mountain Bike Action Magazine for the Ninja Mountain Bike Performance clinic – Check it out! That co-ed clinic will be held again on April 6 – 9 Click Here for the Details.
There are also several rides happening in Ellijay this year:
April 29 – Singletracks Brutal Loop 2.0
May 29 – Memorial Day Hot Dog & Hang out P2
August 5 – Drama Queen Ride
November 25 – Turkey Shuffle
Work is being done to repair CCC Camp Road. In case you’re not aware, the gravel road coming to Mulberry Gap from Eton washed out in December of 2015 when heavy rains hit our area for weeks on end.
There are currently three trail projects in the process and moving forward in the Ellijay area.
Aska trails at Campbell Camp Rd
Preston York from Flowmotion trail builders will be developing a concept for the area this month.
Preston York with Flowmotion has finished the Carter’s Lake concept plan. It will soon be released and public meetings will be held to get feedback. The concept includes a 4 mile downhill, 5-6 miles to be re-done at Ridgeway with a possible connector to the Amadahy.
“Carters Lake is a huge opportunity for this area.” -Terry Palmeri, IMBA Southeast Associate Regional Director.
The Talking Rock project
This will be 8 miles of single track. It will provide great trails for beginner riders. Bill Jones and Ken Nix are working to create a concept plan for this project.
While completion dates are still not firm on these projects, we know that they will be a big part of 2017 for mountain biking in this area.
