Gilmer Arts hosted the Chamber Luncheon on April 14th, 2016 at Gilmer Arts located at 207 Dalton Street in Ellijay, Georgia. Gilmer Arts is a non-profit organization predominately run by creative volunteers working together to promote interest and participation in the visual, literary, and performing arts for the people of Gilmer County and the surrounding areas. Gilmer Arts offers entertainment, education, educational scholarships, and a venue for local artists.
The Chamber members were greeted by the Billy Roper exhibit of Appalachian Folk Art which opened in the gallery last Friday. Gilmer Arts president, Mr. John Rathbone, presented a brief synopsis of the offerings and achievements of the organization. Exciting news regarding the George Link, Jr. Gilmer House Playhouse was presented. An update on classes, events, theater, and this year’s George Link, Jr. scholarships were given. Those present had positive responses and were amazed at the current activities and the plans for the immediate future.
Membership opportunities for business were outlined with emphasis on becoming a REWARDS business partner. REWARDS was presented as a great way to support the Arts, advertise your business, and gain customers.
The luncheon was served in the Hawthorne Room which was decorated in a spring theme. The food, decorations, and service were provided by Gilmer Arts volunteers. The room was bright and cheerful. Immediately following the luncheon, there was an opportunity to renew memberships and to join Gilmer Arts.
State Senator Steve Gooch was the Chamber’s guest speaker, and gave the chamber members an end of session wrap up on several pieces of legislation that were dealt with during session and answered questions from guests.
Following the Senator, Karla Haege the Communications Manager for the Gilmer Chamber presented the new Social Star Award. Each month the a member will be selected that has performed an action(s) that is outstanding through digital marketing, promoting their business, the community or Gilmer Chamber. To receive this award this member must be present at the network luncheon, commit to coming to the following network luncheon to present the award to the next winner. The member will receives a trophy for one month and will pass the trophy along to the next winner. This is an opportunity to promote excellent digital marketing and social media trends, awareness of our local businesses, and encourage members to attend monthly network luncheons.
April’s winner is Walls of Books has been in business less than a year and has used the power of social media and the internet to market successfully. This business recently surpassed 2,000 likes on Facebook and has 6 – 5 star reviews. They did an excellent job of getting their business listed on Google Maps. They are constantly posting relevant, cute, and clever posts on Facebook. With their consistent brand and message Walls of Books will surely continue to make great strides in marketing successfully.
