The April Network Luncheon was held on April 13, 2017. Speaker of the House David Ralston joined the large crowd gathered to discuss the end of the recent session. He mentioned a number of accomplishments but focused on the legislature’s diligence in passing a balanced budget of conservative spending and strategic investment. He also discussed the recently formed House Rural Economic Development committee whose work will focus on the disparities between metro areas and rural Georgia in recruiting and retaining investment, job opportunities, education, health care and other critical issues. Speaker Ralston concluded with a bill that he was especially proud to mention to his hometown crowd. Diligent work on Speaker’s part and the part of other legislators led to the passage of a firefighter cancer insurance safety net inspired by Gilmer County’s own Brian Scudder. We look forward to Governor Deal’s signature on this important piece of legislation.

“Our community offers incredible outdoor experiences, but these can seem a bit overwhelming to try on your own. I thought there might be a need for someone to gather people together and help them experience all of the wonderful things that our beautiful mountain community offers. It has been so fun and rewarding to see these new friendships made and to help those that have recently moved here discover places like Springer Mountain and the other incredible hiking trails in our county! Gosh, we even have members that were born and raised right here in Gilmer County that have never been to some of these beautiful spots. It’s so fun to see the smiles on their faces when they experience them for the first time! We are all so blessed to live in such a beautiful place and I’m super passionate to help people of all ages stay active and enjoy where we live to the fullest!” said Karleen Ferguson.
Stay Active Ellijay opened in August 2016. They are located at 1215 Industrial Boulevard East Ellijay, GA. 30540 on the river across the street from Hardees.
